Munich Airport has various initiatives to help its employees find the optimum work/life balance, both in terms of scheduling and organization. The most common tools are such arrangements as part-time work, flexitime and telework. In 2009 more than 2,000 employees worked part-time, of which 18 percent were women. A key contribution to balancing the demands of career and family life is the legal entitlement to parental leave. The law allows fathers and mothers to take up to three years off. Munich Airport employees can extend this leave on an individual basis. To ensure a smooth re-entry, employees on leave are kept informed about training activities during their absence. A supporting role in this regard is also played by the FMG company kindergarten, which allows parents to keep a flexible schedule when they return to work.

The operating hours of the FMG company kindergarten are geared to the needs of employees and are also designed to cover periods in which other options are not available. Our educational approach is aimed at fostering the children's individual strengths and supporting responsible parenting. Standard aspects of this kindergarten are mixed-age groups, emergency care, short-notice enrolment via a special "hotline", holiday programs, etc. It does not close at weekends or during holiday periods. That means that the kindergarten is open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. 348 days a year.
