The airport and the environment
Mobile aircraft noise monitoring
Mobile Fluglärmüberwachung
The airport operates two mobile measurement stations. Each unit, with its trailer, is an integral part of the aircraft noise monitoring facilities. They are equipped with the same aircraft noise measurement technology as the non-mobile stations.

Where are mobile measurements carried out?
In most cases, the mobile units are deployed at the request of communities affected by aircraft noise where there are no permanent noise measurement stations to provide data on current noise levels.

The majority of these measurements serve to provide one-time information on the current noise situation at a measurement location.

Aircraft noise monitoring
Repeated measurements at the same location permit analysis of historical noise emission trends at a given location along with the evaluation of the current noise situation. In the municipalitiy of Sünzhausen, for example, three noise measurements have already been performed for this purpose.

Noise-optimized departure path geometry
When changes are made to the geometry of departure routes, parallel measurements taken by the mobile noise measurement units and permanent stations are used to document any changes to the noise situation and are later used to optimize the departure route geometry. The aim is to map the routes to minimize the noise impact on the surrounding communities. Four sets of measurements were carried out to study the amended southern departure route, for instance.

Assessment of measurement locations
When permanent measurement stations are relocated, the future locations are studied in advance from a measurement technology standpoint, taking into account ground noise and aircraft noise events and ensuring that sufficient aircraft noise events occur to provide statistically significant data. This suitability check was carried out for the Achering location, for instance, which is conveniently located close to the autobahn and the S-Bahn rail link.
