Munich Airport "Carbon Accredited"
Airport Carbon Accreditation
In recognition of our program to reduce and eliminate CO2 emissions from airport operations, Munich Airport has been granted Airport Carbon Accreditation at the Optimisation level.
What is Airport Carbon Accreditation?
First airport in Germany to achieve Level 3
The 'Optimisation' level shows that Munich Airport has not only mapped its CO2 emissions and reduced them over the past three years (Levels 1 and 2), but has also engaged third parties on the airport campus (airlines, ground handling services, retailers, passengers) to reduce their carbon footprint (Level 3). One example is the implementation of Airport Collaborative Decision Making, which has helped to reduce taxiing times.
Munich Airport is the first German airport to achieve the Optimisation level under the accreditation program.

Sustainable CO2 savings worldwide
Munich Airport is one of more than 40 airports in Europe to achieve one of the various accreditation levels. (Examples: Bologna (Mapping), Brussels (Reduction), London-Heathrow (Optimisation) and Oslo (Neutrality). The airports so far accredited handle more than 44% of annual passenger traffic. Since the launch of the Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme, the CO2 emissions saved have amounted to 600,000 tons.
Airport Carbon Accreditation is an annual certification programme, and therefore requires an ongoing ecological commitment and continuous improvements from year to year.
