Here you’ll find customs information before your departure from Munich Airport: Where are the customs offices? What do I need to know about customs clearance?

VAT refunds
Travelers who reside outside the EU can obtain a refund on the VAT paid for domestic purchases on departure.

Where are the customs offices?
In Terminal 1:
Area B, Level 04, open from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Area F, desk opens three hours prior to departure (Note: Passengers departing from Area F receive their export certification exclusively in this area)

In Terminal 2:
Export office, Level 04 for goods carried in check-in luggage, open from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Export office, Level 05 South for goods carried in hand luggage, open from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Customs clearance – what do you need to know?
Export certification can be granted only when you present the goods you are exporting for inspection and show your passport or other travel document, your plane ticket dated for the current date and your export documents such as invoices or duty-free checks.

Please note:
Your export documents must bear your name and address!

Is export certification granted before or after check-in?
This depends on whether you are departing from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.

Terminal 1:
First go to the desk of your airline and ask for a tag to be attached to your check-in baggage containing the goods your are exporting. Then present the item(s) of luggage to the customs office on Level 04 to obtain export certification. For goods carried in your hand luggage, certification is also granted by the customs office on Level 04.

Terminal 2:
First go to the desk of your airline and ask for a tag to be attached to your check-in baggage containing the goods your are exporting. Then present the item(s) of luggage to the customs office on Level 04 to obtain export certification. For goods carried in your hand luggage, certification is granted on Level 05.
