To cope with increasing complex tasks in a modern fire department, extensive organizational measures must be implemented. That means that these quality measures – in contrast to quality control and quality assurance, which primarily operate by responding to errors or breakdowns – must be actively involved in all areas and must be managed.

QM system
A planned and structured model of a documented representation of the structure and process organization serving to ensure process quality is referred to as a quality management system (QM system). It includes the organizational structure, procedures, processes and resources to implement quality management, and specifies the responsibilities and competencies.
After these requirements were met, the airport fire department was granted quality management certification under DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 by Global Cert in June 2004 and was successfully recertified in May 2007 in all of its corporate functions. The certificate is again valid for three years.

Increasing demands
The aim of quality management is to achieve a continual process of improvement in performance. A company’s position in today’s market environment depends on the speed with which it can implement the improvement process.
Munich Airport and, consequently, the Munich Airport fire department will face tough demands in the future, for instance coping with the steadily increasing traffic growth and the use of new aircraft types. The airport and its fire department will handle these challenges competently and energetically.
