Ready to respond around the clock
Tasks and responsibilities of the airport fire department
Safety is the top priority in aviation. The fire department plays an essential role in ensuring safety at the airport. It primarily operates preventively. When emergencies arise it is ready to respond competently and quickly around the clock.
International regulations: no chance for fire!
In airport category 10, 32,200 liters of water for production of a film-forming foam with a flow rate of 11,200 liters and 450 kilograms of extinguishing powder must be kept on reserve on three vehicles. In emergencies, the intervention time under ideal visibility and surface conditions cannot exceed 180 seconds in all flight operation areas.
Two locations at the airport
The airport fire department has two locations: the southern and the northern fire station. These two locations ensure compliance with the maximum intervention time in all flight operation areas. Each fire station maintains the required reserves of extinguishing materials for category 9.
The airport fire department is responsible both for fire protection and for technical support of flight operations as well as all buildings and facilities in the airport area.
