Frequently asked questions
Travel preparations – before starting your journey
Strand
This section offers information on important questions you may have before setting out on your journey.
  1. Can I book my flight directly through the Munich Airport website? Through the Munich Airport travel portal you can book scheduled and charter flights as well as last-minute trips, package tours, club holidays, hotels and other offers.

  2. Can I check in the evening before my flight? Yes. A number of carriers now offer this service. For details, contact your airline directly. A list of airlines operating at Munich Airport with their phone numbers is available on our website at:

  3. Do I have to confirm the flight time before departure? In your own interest, you should obtain confirmation of the departure time. Occasionally there are changes to departure times of which you must be notified by the airline or travel agent.

You must ensure that you can be contacted to notify you of the change.

  4. When do I have to be at the airport for domestic and international flights? If you have to check in and hand over check-in luggage, you should be at the airport at least 90 minutes before departure, regardless of whether you are flying to a domestic or an international destination.

For flights to the USA or Israel you should be at the airport at least three hours before departure due to the more extensive security screening.

If you are traveling with hand luggage only and have already reserved a seat online and printed out your boarding card, you only need to note the boarding time indicated on it.

Please take into account the time you will need to get through the airport and for security screening and passport control. At peak times, back-ups can be expected at the checkpoints. If everything goes routinely, it will be sufficient to be at the airport an hour before departure.

  5. What is important to bear in mind for persons who need assistance? Persons who need assistance or must be accompanied should indicate this when booking their flight.

The airline will then arrange mobility service free of charge. The service will take the passenger to the aircraft and will be waiting at the destination.

Passengers can also order this service at short notice through the airline at the airport. In this case, however, they should plan on an extended waiting time (30–40 minutes).
