Munich in the “Blue Year“
One color, but two anniversaries: 2011 sees the 125th anniversary of the death of King Ludwig II, and marks one hundred years since the artists Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc published their almanac “Der Blaue Reiter” (Blue Rider).
Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider)

In December 1911, one hundred years ago, the group organized their first joint exhibition in the “Moderne Galerie” of gallery owner and art collector, Heinrich Thannhauser. With their expressive, strongly colored images, the artists of “Der Blaue Reiter” created new paths in art, and cleared the way for Expressionism in Germany.
