Security screening and passport control

Hand baggage checks become even more convenient

To further improve passenger comfort, modernization work is currently taking place at the security checkpoint in Terminal 2in terminal 1 and at the central security checkpoint in Terminal 2. This involves replacing the previous X-ray machines for checking hand baggage with highly efficient computer tomography scanners.

A total of seven CT scanners are in operation in Terminals 1 and 2. The innovative technology is available to air travelers in Terminal 1 in Module D and at the central security checkpoint in Terminal 2. In Terminal 2, the control lanes and lining were adapted for passengers.

Safer and more convenient air travel:

  • Efficient screening lanes with higher throughput and reduced waiting times
  • CT scanner: 3D view facilitates evaluation of images
  • Electronic devices and liquids up to 100 ml can remain in your hand baggage. Please only take liquids with a maximum of 100 ml per individual container.
  • Up to four passengers can place their luggage on the belt at once

Passengers in Terminal 2 should note the following:

During the reconstruction phase of the control lanes, the routing for passengers changes. In addition, the number of lanes will be reduced in some cases. This may result in longer waiting times at security and passport control. During the conversion phase, both the conventional and modern control methods are used.

  • If possible, travel with reduced and lightweight carry-on baggage
  • Arrive at the airport early and allow extra time for security screening
  • Follow the temporary signage and the instructions of our service personnel
  • Prepare for the control procedure according to the instructions in the preparation area.

Navigating the control checkpoints

With these tips and services, the security screening and passport control process is a breeze:

  • Use all of the control checkpoints - In case of extended waiting times at the access area to your departure gate, especially in Terminal 1, follow the signs to the alternative control checkpoints. Follow the instructions of the airport staff. Our staff will ask you to proceed to another control checkpoint if waiting times are shorter there. For an overview of all of the control checkpoints, see the map.

  • Save time with automatic screening - The automatic boarding card checks reduce waiting times outside the security checkpoints in Terminal 2. If you are travelling to a destination outside the Schengen zone, you also have the option in both terminals to use time-saving automatic passport control (e.g. EasyPASS).

  • Be ready for the screening process - When packing your hand luggage, make sure that you can take out the things you need quickly. Plastic bags with liquids and electronic devices must be removed from bags at the security checkpoints and screened separately. You will also have to take off jackets, coats and other outer garments. Have them ready ahead of the screening checkpoint to help speed up the process.
